Drive Time Matrix
The Drive Time Matrix (DTM) is a table with distances and travel time between the 4 Position Postcode (4PP) areas. This makes it possible to calculate the travel time or distance with the use of maps or routing software. The DTM is also useful for calculating travel expenses or to plan visits of sales reps or service mechanics. It is also possible for clients to locate the nearest location of your company on your website.
The location of the 4PP area is the centre of all addresses of which the first four numbers of the postcode are the same. The difference between the used starting point and the actual starting point can be 500-1000 metres within city limits or 2000-3000 metres in rural areas. This makes the DTM extremely useful for determining the travel time of distances larger than 5 kilometres.
In the Netherlands there are about 4000 4PP areas, the file consist of about 8 million travel times and distances. The route between two locations is calculated once, from A to B. An assumption is made that the return route will not be significantly different.
The DTM is in a CSV format, with the following columns:
- From
- To
- Shortest distance
- Quickest distance
- travel time using shortest distance
- Quickest travel time
